New Zealand has a number of Film Festivals and Events throughout the year:

World Cinema Showcase 2007
The little film festival that the organisers of the annual mid-winter International Film Festivals organise – when they’re not organising the big one.

20th Wellington Fringe Film Festival 2007
The Special Competition theme for 2007 is “Junkmail”.

The Silent Film Festival
A three day extravaganza, featuring films from the Silent Era, screened in Opotiki’s fabulous Art Deco Theatre.

Time: from 11am to 7.30pm daily

DOCNZ Documentary Film Festival
New Zealand’s DOCNZ International Documentary Film Festival is Australasia’s only international competitive documentary film festival showcasing the very best in documentary films from all around the world.

Auckland: 27 September – 10 October at Academy Cinemas & Skycity Cinemas (CBD)
Dunedin: 11-21 October at the Octagon
Christchurch: 25 October – 4 November at the Regent on Worcester
Wellington: 8 – 21 November at the Paramount

Italian Film Festival New Zealand
The Italian Film Festival is now into it’s second decade of highlighting a selection of Italian Films in a countrywide festival.


Wairoa Maori Film Festival
The Wairoa Maori Film Festival is presented by Te Roopu Whakaata Maori i te Wairoa ~ Wairoa Maori Film Festival Society Inc.

Date: Labour Weekend October 19-21, 2007
Venue: Normally the Gaiety Cinema and Takitimu Marae
Location: Wairoa

Big Mountain Short Film Festival
The Big Mountain Short Film Festival celebrates two phases of filmmaking – the “No-Budget” phase (where a filmmaker’s creativity and imagination extend beyond their financial means) and the “Budget” phase (where their skills and talents meet the means of powerful storytelling).

Date: Labour Weekend October 19-21, 2007
Venue: Ohakune Cinema, the oldest cinema in New Zealand still operated by members of its founding family.
