26 09 2007

Television journalist Carly Flynn and radio broadcaster James Coleman will present 3’s early morning news show, Sunrise, screening weekdays at 6:30am, starting Tuesday, October 2nd.

An experienced journalist, Carly is a familiar face to New Zealanders having presented 3’s successful Nightline programme for the last two years.

James is a talk host on RadioLIVE and joins the TV3 stable following a varied career within the media which includes hosting breakfast radio and a show on C4.

TV3’s Director of News and Current Affairs, Mark Jennings said the decision to appoint Carly and James was made after careful consideration but the chemistry between the two was obvious immediately.

“One of the biggest factors in the success of any early morning show is interaction of the presenters. James and Carly had instant rapport and I am sure they will develop a partnership that viewers will warm to and enjoy. They are both strong news people but their sense of humour and wide range of interests will, I’m sure, mean an interesting and entertaining programme,” said Mr Jennings.

Both Carly and James are thrilled to be part of the Sunrise team and are eager to start work on the show.

“Nightline has been a great experience and I feel it has equipped me well to face the new challenges that Sunrise will provide,” said Carly. “This is a whole new area for me with a bigger on-air team and it’s something I am incredibly excited about. I’m especially looking forward to working with James,” she said.

James is equally motivated and says the whole transition from radio to television feels right for him and he considers it a natural progression. “I can’t wait to get into it. The skill set I have will be built on moving into television and I think it’s actually an incredibly complementary move for me. I’m looking forward to developing my skills more on the show,” he said.

Sunrise will liven up mornings with half hourly news, sport, business and weather updates, wrapped around interviews with the newsmakers. The show will keep viewers up-to-date with lifestyle issues such as entertainment, gadgets, travel, family, fashion and design.

Sunrise will be an energetic way for New Zealanders to start their day, offering viewers an alternative start to their morning.

At the same time Sunrise launches, a weekday edition of 3 News at midday, 3 News at 12, will also begin.

3 News at 12 will reports on the top stories around the country and around the world. The 30 minute bulletin presented by Sacha McNeil will also offer a comprehensive business update, sports news and the afternoon’s weather forecast.

Don’t miss the series launch of Sunrise and 3 News at 12 screening weekdays at 6:30am and 12pm respectively, starting October 2nd on 3.
