Flight of the Conchords follows the trials and tribulations of a two man, digi-folk band from New Zealand as they try to make a name for themselves in their adopted home of New York City. The band is made up of Bret McKenzie on guitar and vocals, and Jemaine Clement on guitar and vocals.

Bret and Jemaine have moved to New York in the hope of forging a successful music career. So far they’ve managed to find a manager (whose “other” job is at the New Zealand Consulate), one fan (a married obsessive) and one friend (who owns the local pawn shop) – but not much else.

Bret McKenzie is from Wellington, New Zealand, and has been performing professionally in the New Zealand film, music, theatre and television industries since the nineties. Like most New Zealanders, he appeared in the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, but Bret is most well-known for wearing his stripy sweater.

Bret has been involved in a number of musical endeavors outside Flight of the Conchords. He was a member of number one-selling New Zealand band The Black Seeds that produced three gold albums and toured extensively in Europe and the South Pacific. He is also a founding member of the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra.

In 1998, Bret teamed up with university friend Jemaine Clement to create Flight of the Conchords. Formed originally as a vehicle to improve their limited guitar skills, FOTC subsequently toured Europe, USA, and Australia. The duo has collected several awards from the International Comedy circuit, including a nomination for the Perrier Award at the 2004 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, “Best Newcomer” at the Melbourne Comedy Festival and “Best Alternative Comedy Act” at the 2005 U.S. Comedy Arts Festival. They have created an award-winning BBC Radio series, released a live comedy album, “Folk the World,” and are currently recording a new comedy album for Sub Pop Records.

Jemaine Clement is a New Zealander that has been involved in a wide array of projects on stage, radio, television, and film.

Jemaine is one half of sketch comedy duo Humourbeasts with Taika Cohen, the Academy Award® nominee with whom he recently teamed for a film called EAGLE VS SHARK, written and directed by Cohen and starring Clement. TONGAN NINJA, a film he co-wrote with director Jason Stutter, features Jemaine as Action Fighter, the aptly-named nemesis of the title character.

In 1998, Clement joined fellow New Zealander Bret McKenzie in an endeavor initially intended simply as a vehicle for the two bourgeoning entertainers to learn guitar. The duo performed very briefly under the monikers Moustache and Vested Interest before arriving at the name Flight of the Conchords. They have since been named “Best Alternative Comedy Act” at the 2005 U.S. Comedy Arts Festival, “Best Newcomer” at the Melbourne Comedy Festival, and been nominated for the Perrier Comedy award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

They have released a live album called “Folk the World” and a six-part BBC Radio 2 series for which they won a Sony UK Comedy Award. In 2005, FOTC made numerous late-night appearances and filmed a “One Night Stand” for HBO. They are currently signed to Sub Pop Records.
