Kiwi presenter Clarke Gayford has joined the United Travel Getaway travel programme on Prime TV alongside new presenters Renee Wright and Lance Hipkins on travel adventures in exotic locations all around the world. Clarke is better known as a presenter on music channel C4.
Originally from Gisborne, Clarke worked alongside Jason Reeves and JJ Feeney on The Edge FM radio station. Clarke’s first TV appearance was on Treasure Island 2 where he gained infamy for “seducing” one of the female contestants. It was never confirmed whether or not anything happened between them on the island but the show implied more off-camera romance.
Clarke gets to fulfil a lifelong ambition on United Travel Getaway when he catches a wave in Hawaii, Clarke is a keen surfie, so as soon as he heard there was a trip to Hawaii on the Getaway schedule, he was keen to do a story on surfing there.
“It was a fantastic experience, though to be honest our guide, pro surfer Kainoa McGee, did show my efforts up rather badly.”
Clarke also filmed a story on Pearl Harbour and what is there today, and took a look at the volcanic crater in Haleakala National Park on Maui by mountain-biking down the side of it. These other two Hawaii stories will screen on upcoming episodes of United Travel Getaway.
Also on this week’s programme: St Croix in the US Virgin Islands, the Steamboat Ski Resort in the Colorado Rockies, Fitzroy in Melbourne, Peru, the Sydney Harbour Bridge 75th birthday, and Maria Island in Tasmania.
