Castaway dumped by BBC, but TVNZ stays with it.

The reality series Castaway that is being filmed on Great Barrier Island and includes a good number of New Zealand production crew has been dumped by the BBC after only a few weeks.

Castaway’s audience has slumped from 4.1 million at its launch a fortnight ago. It delivered the lowest-ever recorded ratings for BBC One in the prime-time 9pm Sunday slot when it sunk to a new low of new low of 2.1 million viewers.

From April 15, it will be moved to three half-hour episodes at 7pm on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays – against ITV1’s Emmerdale.

TVNZ brought the rights to the series before the first episode was filmed and intend to continue with broadcasting it in New Zealand despite the poor ratings in the UK. TVNZ have not yet decided when the series will be broadcast here.
